Alone in the Dark เป็นเกมสยองขวัญที่เกิดขึ้นในคฤหาสน์ทางภาคใต้ของอเมริกายุค 1920s เนื้อเรื่องของภาครีเมคจะยังเหมือนโครงเรื่องต้นฉบับ มีตัวเอก 2 คนให้เลือกเล่นคือ Emily Hartwood และ Edward Carnby เหมือนเดิม แต่มอนสเตอร์เปลี่ยนใหม่หมดยกชุด และมีอัพเดตเพิ่มตัวละคร สถานที่ ธีมจากเกมในไตรภาคต้นฉบับเพิ่มเข้ามาด้วย ผู้เล่นไม่จำเป็นต้องเคยเล่นเกมซีรีส์นี้มาก่อนก็สามารถเล่นเกมได้

เกมภาครีเมคจะได้ Mikael Hedberg ผู้เขียนบทเกมสยองขวัญ SOMA และ Amnesia: The Dark Descent มาเขียนบทให้, Jason Köhnen ที่มีผลงานทำเพลงประกอบ Doom มาทำเพลงประกอบ และ Guy Davis มาออกแบบมอนสเตอร์
