Metro Exodus เป็นเกมแนวยิง เปิดโลกกว้าง มุมมองบุคคลที่หนึ่ง ซึ่งใช้เวลาในการพัฒนามานานถึง 5 ปี โดยจะเล่าถึงเหตุการณ์หลังเกิดสงครามนิวเคลียร์ในปี ค.ศ. 2036 ที่เมืองมอสโก ประเทศรัสเซีย เมืองแห่งนี้เต็มไปด้วยสารกัมมันตภาพรังสีและสัตว์ประหลาดกลายพันธุ์ จึงทำให้มนุษย์ที่เหลืออยู่ต้องลงมาอาศัยอยู่ในอุโมงค์ใต้ดิน ผู้เล่นจะได้รับบทเป็น Artyom ผู้นำกองกำลัง Spartan Rangers ที่ต้องพาผู้รอดชีวิตที่เหลืออยู่เดินทางข้ามทวีปไปยังสถานที่ที่ปลอดภัยที่อยู่ทางตะวันออกของเมืองมอสโก

Enhanced Edition จะรองรับ Ray Tracing ให้ดียิ่งขึ้นกว่าเดิม โดยจะทำการยกเครื่อง Engine ให้สามารถโชว์ศักยภาพของ Ray Tracing ออกมาอย่างเต็มขีดจำกัด ผ่านขุมพลังการ์ดจอ NVIDIA RTX Series รวมไปถึง AMD ด้วยเช่นกัน

การอัปเกรดในครั้งนี้ จะได้ Advanced Ray Traced Reflections พร้อมทั้ง DLSS 2.0 ที่ช่วยให้ภาพมีทั้งความคมชัด ความละเอียดสูง และได้ Framerate ที่ลื่นไหลขึ้น พร้อมทั้งยังรองรับ DirectX 12 Ultimate และเทคโนโลยีทันสมัยอีกมากมาย
